Skipping the parties? Planning a (cozy) scary movie night for this Halloween season? Here’s our annual list of spooky faves from the Gojek editorial team, which includes gory stuff, freaky things, funny vampires, classic ghosts, and more.
Gojek to the cinema, or back home to fire your TV screens up – it’s time for some good ‘ol scares.
The Substance (2024)
This body horror flick sees aging celebrity Elisabeth Sparkle using The Substance in order to exist in another younger, hotter body, Sue. All she needs to do is make sure both bodies share the same amount of time being conscious. You might love The Substance, or you might be so grossed out by it, or both – there’s only one way to find out.
The Autopsy of Jane Doe (2016)
A father-and-son coroner duo gets to work on the unidentified body of a homicide victim, but quickly finds out it’s not a cookie-cutter murder case. This one is Stephen King-approved, so be prepared to be fully spooked.
Shaun of the Dead (2004)
Also a Stephen King-approved cult classic, but this one’s a hormedy. Shaun is a 29-year-old salesman with no money, no prospects, and most importantly, frightened by the very fact that his London’s now attacked by zombies. Don’t miss the 20th anniversary screenings happening at local cinema The Projector.
Haunted Mansion (2023)
Loosely based on the Disneyland ride of the same name, Haunted Mansion tells the tale of a single mother and her son looking to turn a newly-bought haunted mansion into a bed-and-breakfast. They call for the help of some spiritual experts, including former astrophysicist and current skeptic Ben Matthias, who also happens to be a tour guide for haunted places in the city.
Bonus: What We Do In The Shadows (TV Series)
We know this one’s not a movie (although there is a movie of the same name and by the same creators) – but this is definitely one for the spoopy season. The mockumentary records the everyday lives of centuries-old vampires doing modern-day activities, like opening emails, visiting the gym, or getting a home makeover for their ancient mansion.
