Slow Bakes
Where: 30A Yishun Central 1, #01-08

Sourdough toast and a view for brunch? Sign us up! Despite its proximity to the always-busy Northpoint City and Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, this café is a surprising oasis of calm. Get their homemade sourdough breads and spreads, or maybe a traditional breakfast set with soft-boiled eggs and your brew of choice.

Whether you’re a master chef or an aspiring kitchen legend, this third-generation spicer’s store is for you. You’ll find a small mixing station behind a spice rack, which is where the magic happens: the boss and staff have mastered over 30 spice blends, from rendang to Thai green curry, and will bag them upon request. Let’s get cooking!

Superhero Library
Where: 436 Yishun Avenue 11

You don’t need to look too far for the good-old Singaporean kampung spirit: this 24/7 community library offers volumes of sci-fi, fantasy, non-fiction, and even magazines for readers of all ages! You can bring a book or two home (for free!) if you’d like, but the volunteers running the space highly encourage visitors to ~be a hero~ and donate in kind.

This spot’s hard to reach, but Gojek can get you there. And honestly? It’s worth the trip: let your worries melt away as you take in views of the Johore Strait or Lower Seletar Reservoir. You might get some people-watching in with picnickers and joggers, but keep an eye out for local wildlife and flights from nearby Seletar Airport!

There’s no better way to round off a day trip than with a scrumptious dinner, and we can’t think of a better place to be spoiled for choice than Yishun Park Hawker Centre. Amongst the mix of old- and new-generation hawkers, look out for gems like har cheong gai wings and restaurant-standard Western grilled dishes.
