Never did we expect we’d get bored of working from the comfort of our bedroom, but oh, the pandemic has ways of proving us wrong. Now that Singapore’s reopening again, this week’s edition of Gojek recommends brings you to the best cafés to work from – with lush greenery around, so you and your eyes can take a breather (or ignore your responsibilities, we won’t tell).

Where: 102 Henderson Road
Not exactly a café, but more… a repurposed school canteen. Yes, you read that right. The space is home to 5 F&B concepts and is equipped with tropical deco rattan furnishings – so you’ve got everything you need to answer emails while feeling like you’re on a tropical island that is not Singapore. When you need a break, you can explore the greenhouses with vegetables growing just outside.

Where: 390 Orchard Road
Come sit on the sun-soaked porch of Merci Marcel in Orchard to people watch, and you’ll feel your work woes melt away. Unlike its menu, the décor is distinctly un-French, borrowing linen textures and warm colors from a more easy-summer-in-Italy aesthetic instead.

Where: 30A Yishun Central
Like its name suggests, Slow Bakes is all about escaping the hustle of everyday living, with good food that takes time and love to create. It’s located right by the water in Yishun Pond Park, so even when you’re replying to those pesky Slack messages, you’re still going to be one with nature. This one’s great for folks on a plant-based diet too – the menu has a great selection of vegan options.

For an experience that is truly rustic and warm, call a friend or set a date at Riders Cafe’s balcony, which overlooks a horse stable. The airy spot makes a good venue for friendly conversations all day long – and at this point, who cares about work, really?

Wildseed Cafe at The Alkaff Mansion
Where: 10 Telok Blangah Green
Wildseed is well-known for its Instagram-friendly glass houses in Seletar, but no one talks about its Alkaff Mansion location enough. Think absolutely romantic, luxuriant, Parisian al-fresco dining, and you get Wildseed’s courtyard. The conservatory seats – those are the ones under the beautiful wire structure – are in high demand, so come down during non-peak hours if that’s what you’re after.
