Bouillon Gavroche

Where: Mandarin Gallery

Long before brasseries and bistros, the city of Paris lived on bouillons – traditional eateries serving the working class with hearty meals for cheap. This one is Singapore’s very first newly-opened Parisian bouillon. While it isn’t priced like a meal at the hawker center, you can still expect reasonable charges for satisfying, solid French fare.

The Dim Sum Place

Where: Multiple locations, including 791 North Bridge Road and The Centrepoint

Chain restaurants get an unfair reputation of serving mid dishes from a mass-produced factory line, but not this one. Everything you order in The Dim Sum Place is handmade and halal – with options from bite-sized dim sum to roasted duck, along with local dishes like prawn paste chicken. Best of all: they’re in areas your itinerary would likely take you near.

Old Airport Road Food Centre

Where: 51 Old Airport Road

This legendary hawker center has served locals across generations since 1973. Anything you’d find on a must-try list of dishes from Singapore, you’d easily get here: fried kway teow, rojak, and even snacks like curry puffs. Tip: try out old-school Hainanese western cuisine if you haven’t! Look for Western Delights (#01-53) – which has been serving grilled meats with a signature garlic sauce they’ve perfected since their stall’s opening in 1974. And if you’re looking to wind down after your meal, the center’s also got a second floor for you to browse, with shops selling household wares, and a darling second-hand bookstore called Dakota Dreams run by 5 semi-retirees.

Apartment Coffee

Where: 139 Selegie Road

When you need a mid-day recharge, why settle for sub-par coffee when you can visit Asia’s Best Coffee Shop? That’s not an exaggeration – it’s a title Apartment Coffee won in 2025 and 2026, all while being 6th best globally. This airy minimalist café boasts an equally simple menu of pour-overs from single-origin beans, and sitting by the counter while your barista makes it really does make you feel like you’re in a friend’s apartment – how quaint and lovely.

Minecraft Experience

Where: 80 Mandai Lake Road

When: Until 13 September 2026

Get out of the pixels and into real life when you visit the Minecraft Experience: Villager Rescue at Mandai Wildlife Reserve. Get dropped into the cubic game IRL, as you break and jump across blocks to rescue boxy villagers from zombies attacking. You’ll also receive an in-game cape when you complete your non-fictional quest. Bundled tickets that include entrance to the neighbouring zoo, safari, and other attractions are available too.

Universal Studios Singapore

Where: 8 Sentosa Gateway, Sentosa Island

Extend your play into the newly-extended Sanrio area of USS, where the Superstar Boutique and Superstar Café are. Expect swiss roll slices and other sweet treats decorated with your favorite characters, buy merch only available here, and make sure to stick around for the occasional meet-and-greet sessions for a photo op – come in your most kawaii clothes to match Hello Kitty & her friends!

Filmhouse

Where: Golden Mile Tower

Beloved indie theater The Projector closed its doors suddenly last year – but not to worry, Filmhouse is here. Run by mostly the same folks behind The Projector, the space boasts a fresh coat of paint and decor that’s stylistically more retro-sleek than the previous vintage eclectic vibes. It’s still within the same cozy-chic foyer with ample photo ops though, along with a Trailer Bar that serves cocktails and the quintessential popcorn. Come down for a movie, a party, or the occasional market – watch their socials for updates and details.

Malay Heritage Centre

Where: 84 Sultan Gate

After a 3-year hiatus, the revamped heritage center returns with all-new permanent galleries that trace and celebrate the origins of the Singaporean Malay identity. Learn how different sub-ethnic groups like the Javanese and Bugis from the wider Nusantara contribute to the modern Singaporean Malay identity, and see beautiful batik along with other artefacts on display. Malay Heritage Centre also sits within the wider Kampong Glam area, which has tons of great food and cute shops to browse through.

Singapore’s a regular stop for many international acts – make sure to keep updated as tickets go fast. We’ve got a list of upcoming concerts in 2026 right here, for your easy reference.

frikin guds

Where: Golden Mile Tower

If Singapore’s your only stop in your travels across Asia for the near future, this multi-label store will make a good stop. frikin guds stocks up on items from indie brands across the region, including bags made from upcycled sailcloths in Japan; 3d-printed vases and lamps from Malaysia; and risograph art prints from Thailand – so when you’re here, you won’t be missing out on the best of small businesses in the region.

Note: frikin guds is open only on the weekends.

By Invite Only

Where: multiple locations, including Raffles City, ION Orchard, and 313@somerset

By Invite Only makes nickel-, lead-, and cadmium-free jewelry for those with sensitive skin – and not to worry, you won’t need an invitation to browse through their extensive catalog of versatile pieces. It’s also got dainty options for fancier wear if the occasion calls for it, and a current Miffy collab that’s way too cute to ignore.

Woods in the Books

Where: 206 East Coast Road, New Bahru, and Orchard Forum

Keep your children engaged without digital screens and drop by a Woods in the Books, where beautifully illustrated books with captivating plots live. It’s not just for the kids too – find classics from your childhood, with titles from Dr. Seuss, Hergé’s Tintin, and more; or look out for more adult-appropriate titles from local authors.

DON DON DONKI

Where: multiple locations, including Orchard Central, Jewel Changi Airport, and Harbourfront Centre

If you miss a little bit of Japan, you can find Donki’s chaotic energy in Singapore too. It’s got the quintessential Japanese goods: Kit Kats of exotic flavors, cult-favorite hair masks, and toys from your favorite anime titles. Food from their ready-to-eat sections also make for great fuel when you’re out and about in the city, looking for a quick lunch or dinner.
