Company aims to support national fight against the pandemic by helping people commute safely and conveniently to receive their vaccination
27 May 2021 - Gojek today announced it will be providing all users in Singapore with 2 ride vouchers worth $15 each, which they can use to book rides to and from COVID-19 vaccination centres around the island. By providing free or discounted rides to and from these sites, Gojek aims to ensure that transportation is not a barrier to vaccine access, and commuters have a safe and convenient point-to-point transportation option to travel to and from these centres.
The pair of ride vouchers will automatically be added to every user’s Gojek account today, 27 May, and be available for use through 31 August this year. With each voucher, riders can book a subsidised ride for pick-up or drop-off at their appointed vaccination centre, polyclinic or clinic[1]. The vouchers can be used on any day in the week from 8am to 8pm. New users who download the Gojek app and sign up with the platform between 27 May and 31 August will also receive the 2 vouchers in their Gojek accounts, in addition to a discount voucher usually extended to all new users.
Lien Choong Luen, General Manager of Gojek Singapore, says: “Vaccination is an important layer of protection in our fight against COVID-19. Just as we actively urge our driver-partners to take up the vaccination when their turn comes, we want to enable our riders to get to their vaccination appointments with ease too, by removing any transportation barrier to vaccine access.
“Ride-hailing provides a safe, convenient means of point-to-point transportation as vehicles are regularly sanitised, and it offers greater privacy and safe distancing compared to the more communal modes of transportation. We hope that with this campaign, more people will be inclined to get vaccinated and we can do our part to support Singapore’s fight against the pandemic.”
Earlier this month, Gojek partnered with Tan Tock Seng Hospital to distribute ride vouchers to hospital employees. This is part of GoHeroes, an ongoing initiative by the company to support healthcare workers, everyday heroes keeping Singapore well and safe on the frontlines. Last year, Gojek extended ride vouchers to all nine public hospitals. As part of GoHeroes, thousands of Gojek driver-partners also virtually pledged their commitment to fulfill trips originating from hospitals, ensuring that healthcare workers can continue to travel to and from their workplace safely and comfortably.
Additionally, Gojek has increased its educational outreach to driver-partners and riders on the precautions they must take while providing ride-hailing services. Examples include cleaning and disinfecting the vehicle after every completed trip, observing good hygiene practices like regularly washing their hands, and using contactless methods to pay for rides. The company continues to distribute masks and hand sanitisers to driver-partners to provide for a safe ride environment.
As Gojek monitors the evolving COVID-19 situation, it will continue to look at new initiatives to create an even safer ride environment and keep Singapore moving safely.
